Ja-Stan Tablet

Why it's used

Ja-Stan Tablet is used to relieve mild to moderate pain from a toothache, headache, muscle pain, injury, or pain after an operation or delivery. It is a prescription medicine. This medicine works by blocking the chemicals which generate pain signals in the body. This medicine helps by preventing the formation of pain causing signals in the body. Ja-Stan is also used to treat symptoms of painful menstrual bleeding. It is also used to treat abnormally heavy bleeding at menstruation. Ja-Stan is also used to relieve pain associated with swelling and stiffness of the joints caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs
Ja-Stan belongs to a class of medicines called Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, also called as NSAIDs, help reduce fever, decrease pain, and prevent clotting of blood. NSAIDs also reduce inflammation in the body when used in higher doses.

How to use
Follow directions on the product label, information guide, and provided by your doctor before using Ja-Stan. Eat this medicine as per your doctor's instructions.
Ja-Stan Tablet is used to relieve pain. Pain medicines usually work the best if used at the first sign of pain and may not work well if delayed until the symptoms have worsened.
Ja-Stan is eaten with or after food.

Typical Dosage

The typical adult dose of Ja-Stan is 500 mg as an initial dose followed by 250 mg every 6 hours. The maximum dose for adults of Ja-Stan is 1500 mg per day. This medicine is commonly used for a period of 1 week for severe pain, and 2-3 days for pain during menstruation. There are no known habit-forming tendencies with this medicine.
This medicine should be used on an as-needed basis.
If using the liquid form of this medicine, measure the dose using the provided measuring cup, spoon, or dropper. Before pouring the medicine into the measuring device, you should check the measurement markings carefully. Then, pour the dose amount into the device. After use, clean and store the measuring device in a safe place for your next use. You should not use a tablespoon or teaspoon as the dose measuring devices since it can result in an incorrect dose. If indicated on the product package, shake the medicine before use.

Talk to Your Doctor

Tell your doctor if you develop new symptoms. If you have issues with the health of your liver, a low dose of Ja-Stan may be prescribed.
To see the impact of Ja-Stan Tablet on the body, your doctor may recommend a lower initial dose. Please follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Taking a high dose of this medicine is known to increase the chances of side-effects. A lower dose of Ja-Stan Tablet may be recommended to reduce the risk of side-effects. Older patients may see an increase in the risk of side-effects. Hence, a lower dose may be recommended.

Use in Children

The safety and effectiveness of using this medicine in children has not been established. This medicine may be used in children aged more than 14 years for relief from severe pain.

Avoid Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol with Ja-Stan.

Lab Tests

Before starting this medicine, your doctor may ask you to undergo certain medical or laboratory tests (Blood Pressure) to monitor for side-effects. After starting the medicine, your doctor should monitor you for these tests to make sure that you do not have side-effects of this medicine.

Storage

Store Ja-Stan Tablet at room temperature (20°-25°C/68-77°F) and away from heat, away from moisture, and away from light. Keep this medicine away from children and pets.
Medicines may be given for uses other than those listed in the medicine guide. Do not use Ja-Stan Tablet for symptoms for which it was not prescribed. Do not give Ja-Stan Tablet to others who may have similar symptoms as you. Self-medication can cause harm.

How to take Ja-Stan

Your dose and how often you take Ja-Stan will depend on the following factors:
  • age
  • patient's health
  • the health of the patient's liver
  • the health of the patient's kidneys
  • medicines recommended by the doctor
  • any other medicines being used
  • herbal supplements in use
  • response to the medicine

Ja-Stan Dosage

Dosage for acute pain

Adult (adults and children older than 14 years)
  • Recommended: 500 mg followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as needed usually not to exceed one week
  • Initial: 500 mg
Children (children older than 14 years)
  • Recommended: 500 mg followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as needed usually not to exceed one week
  • Initial: 500 mg

Dosage for abdominal pain during menstruation

Adult
  • Recommended: 500 mg followed by 250 mg every 6 hours should not be necessary for more than 2 to 3 days
  • Initial: 500 mg

Dosage for heavy bleeding during menstruation

  • Recommended: 500 mg three times a day

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose when you remember that you missed it. However, if it's time for the next dose, skip the dose you missed and continue with your normal dosing schedule.

Overdose

What to do if you overdose on Ja-Stan?
The specific antidote of Ja-Stan overdose is not available. In the case of overdose, consider making the person vomit. An alternative is to consume activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is the form of carbon that has small, low-volume pores. These pores help trap chemicals as in the case of poisoning. Osmotic cathartic can also be used in patients within four hours of intake of drug or in patients with a large overdose. An osmotic cathartic is a laxative substance that eases the passing of stool.
Symptoms of an overdose of Ja-Stan
If you use too much of this medicine, it could lead to dangerous levels of the medicine in your body. In such cases, symptoms of an overdose may include:
  • lack of energy
  • nausea
  • pain in the upper belly
  • sleepiness
  • stomach and intestinal bleeding
  • vomiting

Precautions while using Ja-Stan

Before you use Ja-Stan, tell your doctor of your medical and health history including the following:
  • allergy to Ja-Stan
  • asthma
  • coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
  • high blood pressure
  • inflammatory bowel disease
  • kidney problems
  • liver problems
  • previous use of NSAID medicines
  • severe heart failure
  • stomach ulcers
Before you use Ja-Stan, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or its ingredients. Your doctor may prescribe an alternative medicine and update your medical records to record this information. Discuss with your doctor if you are allergic to aspirin.
Before having any surgery, discuss with your doctor and dentist about medicines you use including prescription medicines, non-prescription medicines, and herbal supplements.
The use of this medicine may change the functioning of kidneys. Use of this medicine may lead to damage to the patient's kidneys.
The use of Ja-Stan Tablet may change blood pressure. Use of this medicine can lead to an increase in the blood pressure level or worsening of high blood pressure levels if it was already an issue.

Use when Pregnant

Consult with your doctor on the use of Ja-Stan during pregnancy or if you are planning to become pregnant. This medicine increases the chances of developing a rare life-threatening heart disease, in the unborn baby. Ja-Stan belongs to the NSAID class of medicines. NSAIDs should not be taken after 29 weeks of pregnancy as these medicines may cause serious harm to the unborn baby.

If Breastfeeding

Ja-Stan Tablet is not safe for use in women who are breastfeeding. If you are breastfeeding, discuss with your doctor if you should either discontinue breastfeeding, or stop using this medicine during this period. This medicine may pass in the breast milk and cause serious adverse effects in infants. You should consult with doctor and a decision should be made to either discontinue Ja-Stan or not to breastfeed while using this medicine.

If trying to Conceive

Ja-Stan may impact fertility in women. If you are trying to conceive, discuss with your doctor on the use of this medicine. This medicine is not recommended in women who are attempting to conceive. In women who are undergoing an investigation of infertility, withdrawal of Ja-Stan should be considered.

Alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol with Ja-Stan. Consumption of alcohol may cause stomach ulcers, and bleeding in the stomach and intestines.

Dizziness

Ja-Stan can make you feel sleepy. Be careful, especially while driving, while using heavy machinery, or when doing any activity that needs you to be completely alert. The consumption of alcohol with Ja-Stan can worsen the sleepiness.

Increase in Risk

This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Regular use of tobacco or alcohol may increase the risk. Discuss with your doctor if you smoke and drink alcohol regularly.

Side-effects in Older Patients

Older patients may have a higher incidence of side-effects when using Ja-Stan Tablet. Elderly patients may see an increased risk of heart disease, decreased function of kidneys, stomach bleeding, and intestinal bleeding.

Long-term Use

This medicine in the longer term leads to an increase in the risk of kidney disease, heart attack, liver damage, and bleeding in the stomach & intestines.

Pregnant Women

  • Heart failure and accumulation of fluid in the body (possibly fatal)
    Symptoms: shortness of breath, unexplained weight gain collection of fluid in parts of the body
    If this happens, stop using Ja-Stan and contact your doctor right away.
  • Blood-related diseases (bleeding)
    Symptoms: blood loss anemia
    Monitor the patients for signs of bleeding.
  • Heart attack or stroke (possibly fatal)
    Symptoms: chest pain, slurring of speech, shortness of breath weakness
    If this happens, contact your doctor right away.
  • Increase in potassium level in the body, which is also called as hyperkalemia
  • Serious skin disorders including swollen skin, erythema multiforme, Lyell's syndrome, swelling of the larynx, and Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and photosensitivity reactions
  • Liver damage (possibly fatal)
    Symptoms: fatiguenausea, lack of energy, diarrheaitchingjaundicepain on touching upper right side of the abdomen flu
    If this happens, stop using Ja-Stan and contact your doctor right away.
  • Kidney damage (kidney injury and death of the kidney cells (renal papillary necrosis))

  • Bleeding in the stomach and intestines

    Monitor blood pressure regularly throughout the treatment.
  • Asthma attacks in patients who have history of asthma

Warnings

History of Heart Attacks

There is an increased risk of having another heart-attack in such patients. The heart-attack may be fatal during the first week of using this medicine. Avoid the use of Ja-Stan in patients with a recent heart attack unless the benefits are more than the risk. If used, monitor the patients for signs of heart attack.

Previously have had Heart Surgery

The patients may have an increased incidence of heart attack and stroke while using this medicine. In such patients, NSAIDs should not be used.

Women in their Third Trimester of Pregnancy

Pregnant women are at increased risk while using this medicine. Such patients may have an increased risk of a life-threatening problem (a rare heart disease) in the unborn baby. Avoid use of this medicine in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Serious Skin Reactions

Patients with severe skin reactions are at increased risk while using this medicine. Such patients may develop an increased risk of severe allergic reactions. Discontinue the use of this medicine at the first appearance of a skin rash or any other sign of allergy.
